MUNCH XXV is excited to anounce the following array of Committees!


GAs

Our largest committees, General Assemblies work towards creating and passing resolutions that address global issues. Each General Assembly is composed of around 100 delegates. Delegates in General Assemblies will gain experience that mimics the negotiations and consensus-building used in policy-making across the world

DISEC (Disarmament and International Security Committee)

Often referred to as the First Committee, DISEC was created as the first of the Main Committees in the General Assembly. This committee deals with issues regarding disarment and threats to peace which affect the international community. At MUNCH, delegates will combat modern day warfare by collaborating to prevent cyberattacks and protect civillians from commerical spyware.

UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme)

The United Nations Environmental Programme is the leading authority in the United Nations system. This committee works to strenghten and impliment environmental standards. Delegates at MUNCH will discuss artificial island/land creation in the South China Sea. They will get to explore methods of preserving biodiversity and collaborate to protect fishery populations in order to ensure environmental and economic stability.

ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a political and economic union of 10 states in Southeast Asia which aims to preserve economic and cultural exchange among its member states. It was formed during the Cold War, and it’s founding purpose is to promote stability Southeast Asia. Delegates at MUNCH will discuss smoke pollution due to farming practices in Indonesia and the internal conflict in Myanmar which has resulted in a refuee crisis.

ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council)

The Economic and Social Council serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues. This includes the multiple large-scale development crises whihc currently impact the world. ECOSOC has growing concerns over the stability of international partnership and general respect for international law and regulation. At MUNCH, delegates in this committee will be tasked with addressing both a specific, critical crisis in Haiti, but also with establishing a more cohesive and effective path for ECOSOC into the future.


GAPs

General Assemblies Plus combine the best of the General Assembly experience with the best of the Crisis Committee experience. With around 30 delegates in total, General Assembly Plus committees work towards passing resolutions while simultaneously addressing crisis updates that mimic the fast-paced nature of the news.

Cyber Security Council

The most influential global tech, cybersecurity, and software firms from around the world gather to form this corporate body. With looming global crises’, they must act. Will these companies successfully collaborate to address cyber warfare, web espionage, and cybersecurity breaches? (Double Delegation)

Reconstruct Cambodia

The committee centers around the 1992-1993 UN administration of Cambodia. Acting as a part of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia, Delegates in this committee will be tasked with restoring order to Cambodia after decades of unrest. Primarily, the committee will focus on demilitarizing the country, eliminating remaining Khmer Rouge forces, promoting human rights, and eventually conducting elections.

Driving for Surviving:

Creating a More Accessible F1

This committee works to address inequalities within F1, including those between teams (e.g. funding, junior teams) and the affordability and elitism for both fans and those looking to enter the circuit. Delegates will be able to explore sexism and diversity, as well as safety and sustainability within F1 and the motorsport world more generally. Delegates will represent a range of influential parties within F1, including drivers, team principals, FIA officials, and potential third-party entities (e.g. the press or major sponsorship partners).

IOC LA 2028: Construction and Controversy

Goal: 1 resolution passed

As the 2024 Paris Olympics close, many eyes look to the International Olympic Committee to plan and prepare for LA in 2028. It will have been 32 years since the last time the US was able to host the Summer Olympics, and more than 40 years since the City of Angels has taken on such a task. Throughout this committee, delegates will be tasked with forming and organizing the LA 2028 Olympics, from popcorn stands to events chosen, to diplomatic ties. This committee will brave the elements, enduring natural disasters, disease outbreaks, and doping scandals, all while trying to balance the interests of over 200 nations. This committee will hope to show off the delegates' ability to create and organize an event of this scale and adapt to a wide range of events, all while learning about the diplomatic importance of the Olympic Games.

UNSC:

Venezuela vs Guyana

This committee is set in March 2024 and focuses on the situation in Venezuela and the surrounding states. Delegates will be challenged to coordinate with international and national bodies to carry out a free and fair Venezuelan presidential election. However, other issues will arise as they attempt to deal with this, reflecting the nature of the Security Council as the international peacekeeping body. Venezuela's long-standing dispute with Guyana is one potential issue that may come up, as could natural disasters or the large-scale Venezuelan refugee crisis.


Crisis Committees

Small and swift, Crisis Committees focus on specific historical or political issues. Delegates get the opportunity to represent high-powered individuals within those scenarios and utilize a range of tools to respond to crisis updates.

Hit Me Baby One More Time: Old Leaders, New Problems

The year is 2030. In a new world ravaged by high inflation, unprecedented climate change, and growing homelessness, the most prominent figures of the past may be the only solution. Mysteriously waking up in the future, you and cohorts you’ve only ever read about gather in this unique U.N. committee. Forging unprecedented alliances, using a mix of old and new tricks, work together to fix the problems which ail the world before it’s too late!

Project: Phalanx

In a far distant future, the absolutist government of Earth has colonized most of the galaxy. At the fringes of their territory lies a newly colonized solar system called Archon which is planned to be the testing ground for an experimental dyson sphere project.

Delegates will assume the roles of notable members of Archon’s eight planets, wading through personal rivalries, super natural disasters, and threats of conflict. Will they yield to Earth and follow the project  or reject the orders, protecting their treasured autonomy at the risk of incurring the regime’s wrath?

Ultimately, the answers to these questions and many more may be found with the reason Archon was settled to begin with;

Chernobyl

The day is April 26, 1986. Nurses and doctors tend to the wounded, and firefighters perish as they strive to put out an unwavering fire. Chernobyl's fourth nuclear power reactor has exploded, and someone is responsible for it. To hold the perpetrators accountable, a team of scientists, government officials, and members of the general public will conduct their own investigation to uncover the murky secrets behind the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster. Will they be able to protect the people of Pripyat, or will they themselves be consumed by the toxic radiation and enmity of the Cold War?

Battle Royale:

The Fight for the English Throne

It is 1533 in England and the throne stands vacant following King Edward VI’s death. The question of succession is threatening to send the nation into chaos and is furthered by religious tensions and family politics. Prominent challengers such as Lady Jane Grey, a Protestant backed by ambitious nobles, Princess Mary, Edward’s Catholic sister with a legitimate claim by birthright, and Princess Elizabeth, a politically astute Protestant, all vie for the crown. Edward’s controversial decision to disinherit his sisters casts uncertainty over the line of succession, inflaming existing divisions. As England teeters on the brink, each contender’s ambition and beliefs could shape the kingdom’s future. The question remains—who will emerge victorious and steer the fate of the realm?

It’s Saturday Night!

It is October 11, 1975. The premiere of the new sketch comedy show is set to begin at 11:30pm on NBC. The entire set is in disarray, the writer’s room is in shambles, and the actors are nowhere to be found. If the crew cannot get it together before the live taping of their new show, it will never go beyond the pilot episode. Will SNL creator Lorne Michaels be able to get the crew in order before show time, or will NBC cancel the show before it even begins?

Breaking the Bench: The Mexican Senate’s Controversial Judicial Overhaul

With the election of the Morena Party for the first time in 2018, Mexico experienced a political shift. Recently, the party has secured a second term and proceeded to embark on bold constitutional reforms such as overhauling the judicial system. These actions have sparked intense debate. Critics fear the reforms may create avenues for corruption and undermine judicial independence. As the nation grapples with these sweeping changes, the question remains—will these reforms strengthen the rule of law or expose the system to greater risks? The future of Mexico’s judiciary hangs in the balance.


2 Ad Hocs

Ad Hocs are special committees where delegates don't know what the committee is until conference weekend. They’re interesting and engaging committees recommended for more experienced delegates, but anyone is welcome! This year we have two and are excited to share these committees with you!


Joint Crisis Committee:

Like a regular crisis committee,  delegates get the opportunity to represent high-powered individuals within those scenarios and utilize a range of tools to respond to crisis updates. Unlike a regular crisis, their are two committees with opposing goals that are effecting the other’s debate through directives and crisis notes.

JCC - Flying off the Rails (Trains)

Europe’s rail industry is fighting to become the continent’s primary form of transport, and is winning. The European Union is fighting to put sanctions on carbon emissions, tightening the leash on the aviation industry. However train officials are grappling with crumbling infrastructure, high costs, fragmented systems, and union protests. The rail industry must come together and strategize to create more efficient routes, upgrade passenger experiences, and negotiate with different countries to unify the rail system. Can different rail systems come together to win the battle over the plane industry? Full steam ahead, the future of our climate and the European travel industry depends on it.

JCC - Flying off the Rails (Planes):

Once soaring high as the dominant mode of rapid transit, Europe’s aviation industry is now under siege. A formidable rival, the train industry, has surged in popularity, threatening the skies with sleek, high-speed rail networks that boast lower carbon footprints and reduced fares. As if this weren’t enough, the looming specter of climate change has intensified government scrutiny, sparking an unprecedented wave of regulations that dictate everything from route efficiency to fuel usage. Trapped between the train industry’s encroachment and intensifying climate policies, how can Europe’s planes defend their skies? The fate of European aviation rests on a knife’s edge. Make no mistake: to protect its domain, the plane industry must deftly navigate the labyrinth of environmental policies, recalibrate its strategic alliances, and prove that its fleet can meet Europe’s evolving standards for a sustainable future—not to mention, . Every flight path, every regulation must align with a vision that secures aviation’s place in tomorrow’s Europe. Buckle in and brace for turbulence.
